You would be surprised by how many famous actors in Hollywood are of Nigerian descent. Apart from the typical list such as John Boyega, Chiwetel Ejiofor, David Oyelowo, Yvonne Orji and many others, there are those you may know nothing about. Read on to check out who you may have missed. This is part 2 of the previous list that was written last week.

Carmen Elizabeth Ejogo

This Nigerian-English actress was born in 1973 in Kensington, London and began her acting career as a teenager. She has a Scottish mother and a Nigerian father. You may have seen her in huge blockbuster movie roles such as Ava Duvernay’s ‘Selma’, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald (2018),  Alien: Covenant (2017), The Purge: Anarchy (2014) and many more.

Sophie Okenedo

Sophie is is a British film, theatre and television actress who was born to a Jewish mother and a Nigerian father. Her breakthrough performance came when she acted in the critically acclaimed movie Hotel Rwanda (2004). This role allowed her to become the second black female Briton to receive a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress at the 77th Academy Awards in 2005. She also later received a Golden Globe Award nomination for the miniseries Tsunami: The Aftermath (2006). She was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the 2010 Birthday Honours, and Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in the 2019 New Year Honours.

Cynthia Erivo

Formally known as Cynthia Onyedinmanasu Chinasaokwu Erivo, this Nigerian-English actress, singer and songwriter, was born to Nigerian parents in Stockwell, South London. She ventured into American blockbuster film roles such as the heist film Widows and the thriller Bad Times at the El Royale. Her recent film role as the slave abolitionist Harriet Tubman in the biopic Harriet (2019) earned her an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress. Presently, she is on HBO’s popular TV drama series Outsider (2020).

Donald Faison


Donald, formally known as Donald Adeosun Faison is an American actor, comedian, and voice actor of Nigerian descent. He is best known for his leading role in critically acclaimed comedy series, Scrubs (2001–2010). He also played a supporting role in the iconic 90’s teen movie, Clueless (1995). His other roles include Waiting to Exhale (1995), Remember the Titans (2000), Uptown Girls (2003), Something New (2006), Next Day Air (2009), and Kick-Ass 2 (2013).
