I like to think I am a music head… but that’s a story for another day.
As a womanist, I have strong love for the WOMAN folk and what we do, especially when we collaborate and empower ourselves and other women. Here is a list of music videos by women for women and they absolutely inspire me. Enjoy and share your own list in the comment section.
- Lauryn Hill and Mary J Blige
Off her album, Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, Lauryn featured Mary J. Blige for “I Used to Love Him.” In an electrifying blend of voices, Lauryn and Mary tell a story of pain and regret of a failed, toxic relationship and healing.
- Rihanna Ft Sza
“Consideration,” with this dub-inspired hip hop and R&B hit, Rihanna declares her independence and seeks peace of mind. It’s from her eighth studio album Anti (2016) and was co-written by featured artist SZA, with Rihanna and its producer Tyran Donaldson.
- Endegna – Ho Belen
Endegna is an Ethiopian acting and five-piece girl group, formally known as Yegna originating in Addis Ababa. The group brings us home with its interesting Northern vibe.
- ONE – Strong Girl
Featuring Nine of Africa’s finest divas in the music industry, this anthem celebrates, recognises and stands with “strong girls” in the world with its uplifting beat sure to force you to groove.
- Keyshia Cole ft. Missy Elliott, Lil’ Kim
“Let It Go” celebrates friendship, loyalty with women. It’s not every day you get powerful talented women in the music industry come together to dish such a powerful R&B/Hip hop groove, with all the beef or diss they spill. Come off it girls, you do great things united.
