Wherever there’s a healthy dose of passion, diligence and hard work at play, only one thing is sure; Excellence. Tribe Of Dumo, formerly known as Afro Kouture, is a brand committed to creating ready-to-wear pieces for men, women and kids, with a beautiful array of colorful and simple designs that are trendy yet easy.
The name Dumo was conceived from the surname of the designers “Odumodu” a name of the Ibo people of Nigeria, which translates into “Lion”. And when you imagine a lion what do you see? Fieriness and strength; these two thoroughly displayed by the ingenious brand. Birthed by two sisters in 2015 in Houston, Texas, this fashion house is impressing its footprints deep in the sand beaches of the Ankara fashion design industry. Their choice of prints stems deeply from deep love and reverence for the African culture, their mission being to bring the natural love for this African prints to the world’s stage intertwining western style into the vibrant fabric that is Ankara.
Meet the brains:
Ijeoma Odumodu: She is the creative director behind the brand. Entrepreneur at heart, she always wanted to create fashion forward pieces from the simplest of designs which would still retain their edgy and playful styles. Her passion for fashion and design is channeled towards pushing the envelope in the world of design. Currently attending the art institute of Houston, she manages the brand alongside her sister and co-partner.
Chioma Osibodu (nee Odumodu): Registered and practicing nurse/ entrepreneur, she has always thought herself a designer by heart. Gifted with her hands, she learnt how to put clothes together at the young age of 17 after graduating high school. She believes in “birthing” ideas from the inside, never taking “No” for an answer and striving to be the best you can be.
Together, both women share a deep passion for not just the arts, but also the emancipation of the women folk, especially those in business. They are together co-founders of Bosses In Heels LLC, a for-profit outfit in Houston Texas, centered on female empowerment and development.
The brand spots tops, skirts/pants, play&jumpsuits, maxi dresses, mini/midi dresses, queen/plus size outfits, infinity wrap styles and so much more. Head out to www.tribeofdumo.com to view their creations and shop your choice.
