The Petition of 31st October, 2016 written by Biyi Poroye against a judge, Justice Jummai Sankey, who formed part of the panel presiding over the Ondo state PPD crisis has caused a dissolution of the presiding panel.
The said crisis is said to have arisen as result of INEC accepting Jimoh Ibrahim of the Ali Modu Sheriff faction of the party to replace Eyitayo Jegede of the Ahmed Makarfi faction as candidate of the party in the upcoming gubernatorial election. A decision which was immediately challenged by the Makarfi faction.
INEC’s decision was a follow-up on the ruling of Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court, Abuja which had endorsed Jimoh Ibrahim.
Consequent upon the petition, the president of the court of appeal, Zainab Bulkachuwa dissolved the said panel on Wednesday, and instated another panel consisting of Justice Ibrahim Saulawa (named as chairman of the panel), justice Ignatius Agube and justice Godwin Mbaba as members.
The said petition was on grounds of bribery in the sum of N350 million, which the petitioner alleged that the chairman of the former panel, Jummai Sankey had received from Governor Segun Mimiko of the Makarfi’s faction of the party.
