Two Malaysian badminton players Zulfadli Zulkiffli and Tan Chun Seang have been handed career-ending bans for match-fixing.
Zulkiffli, 25, who is a former junior badminton champion and Chun Seang, 31, were banned for 20 and 15 years respectively after an independent panel found both players guilty of engaging in corrupt offences in some tournaments from 2013.
The players’ actions were found to breach the BWF’s code of conduct relating to “betting, wagering and irregular match results”.
Zulkiffli and Seang were also fined $25,000 and $15,000 respectively by a BWF Ethics Hearing Panel.
This will be the first of its kind for both badminton and the Badminton World Federation (BWF).
Meanwhile, their suspensions have been backdated from 12 January, 2018, the date they were both provisionally suspended by the BWF.
