On your marks, get set… WE MOVE. The Access Bank Lagos City Marathon will hold this weekend (Saturday, February 11, 2017). Over 50,000 runners are gunning for either the $50,000 reward for winning the marathon or the 1 million naira price for the first Nigerian to cross the finish line. So, if you are running the marathon, be prepared to meet different types of runners/people. So who are the people you will meet at the marathon? We identify some of them.

The Kenyans

UTICA BOILERMAKER ROAD RACE 2004

Which marathon will you not find Kenyans? They eat, drink, and sleep marathon. You don’t even need a dibia to tell you that it is a Kenyan who will win the $50,000. Kenya’s Abraham Kiptum has already vowed to win the 2017 edition again.

The determined Nigerians

These are the runners who have been training for several weeks to run Lagos. Of course, they know that they may not win the $50k dollars but they are ready to sweat it out for the N1 million on offer for the first Nigerian to cross the finish line.

The fun seekers/the booty clique

The fun seekers are other Nigerians who run the marathon just for fun. They are either running with their girlfriends or in a group where their eyes cannot get enough of the female behind. They revel at the sight. They will have fun all the way until they arrive at the finish point while others will board the pickup bus thus dropping out of the race.

 The tourist runners

The tourist runners are foreigners who purposely came to Lagos to run the marathon. You can also include the foreigners who reside in Lagos. They are always with their cameras and are always taking pictures. Funny enough, they try as much as possible to finish the race.

The Lagos executive

The Lagos executive runs a little and disappears. The next location you will find them is Eko Atlantic which is the end point of the marathon. If you understand what this actually means. 🙂
