The Golden Eaglets of Nigeria have qualified for the U17 African Nations Cup in Tanzania next year after they defeated Ghana 3-1 on penalties on Saturday evening at the WAFU Zone B U17 AFCON qualifiers.
The match ended 1-1 at fulltime after the Ghanaians opened the scoring in the 54th minute before Akinkunmi Amoo finished off a brilliant team move 13 minutes to bring Nigeria level before full time.
Though Amoo missed during the shoot-out, Ishaya, Tijani and Ibrahim all scored for Nigeria while John Amah stopped Ghana’s Agyapong to seal the victory and qualification.
Manu Garba’s boys has therefore sealed their slot for next year’s U-17 African Cup Of Nations competition slated for Tanzania.
Samson Tijani took home the Most Valuable Player of the tournament award while Kunle Olusegun won the Highest Goalscorer of the tournament as he finished on 4 goals.
