What seemed impossible before last night’s encounter in Rome was proved possible as AS Roma, who needed to score three un-replied goals, thrashed Champions league favourites Barcelona 3-0 to advance to the semi-finals.

Edin Dzeko opened the scoring early in the first half after he beat two defenders to a long balland slotted past Ter Stegen. From then on it was all Roma till the end of the first half.

In the second half, Daniel de Rossi doubled the lead through a penalty before Manolas completed the miracle in the last ten minutes to send Barcelona parking from this year’s competition.

At the Etihad stadium, Liverpool got the better of Manchester City 2-1 to scale through on a 5-1 aggregate.

Gabriel Jesus opened the scoring in the 3rd minute off a Raheem Sterling assist which gave the Citizens some array of hope before half time.

High-scoring Egyptian Mohammed Salah then equalized for the Reds early in the second half before Roberto Firmino took advantage of a defensive error to slot in the second goal.

Juventus and Sevilla will be looking for a Roma miracle when they take on Real Madrid and Bayern Munich respectively later today.
