Ronaldo was the Bernabeu hero last night as his 97th minute winner sent Real Madrid to their 8th consecutive semi-final.
The Galacticos who are on course to defend their Champions league title, fell behind in the 2nd minute after Mario Mandzukic was granted a free header.
Mandzukic doubled the lead in the 37th minute as he beat Keylor Navas with his header as scores stood like that till halftime. Blaise Matuidi took advantage of Navas’s blunder to hit in the third goal and level the scores on aggregate.
With the match drawing to a close, Benatia brought down Luca Vasquez who was on course to head in Ronaldo’s header-assist and a penalty in given. Buffon was then given a red card as arguments ensued.
Ronaldo converted the penalty to score his 120th Champions league goal and send his team to the semi-final.
In Munich, Bayern couldn’t get past the defence of Sevilla as they settled for a 0-0 draw with the German side going through on a 2-1 aggregate, having already won the first leg in Seville 2-1.
The draws for the semi-final will be held today.
