Arsenal saw their fairytale run in the Europa league come to an abrupt end after they were beaten 2-1 on aggregate by Atletico Madrid in the Europa League semi-final.
Former Chelsea striker Diego Costa continued his haunt on Arsenal but this time with Atletico Madrid as his composed chip at half-time off a Griezmann pass gave the Spanish side the much needed win.
Arsenal should have equalized in the second half through Aaron Ramsey but his touch let him down while he was through on goal.
A bad night was made worse for Arsenal when Captain Laurent Koscielny was carried off with an Achilles injury, which may rule the Frenchman out of this summer’s World Cup.
A win would made sure of a good parting present for Wenger who will be leaving Arsenal after his 22 years stay.
Meanwhile, in the other semi-final clash, Marseille fell 1-2 to Red Bull Salzburg but still qualified on a 3-2 aggregate.
Atletico will now face Marseille in Lyon on 16 May. Atletico have won this trophy twice while Marseille will be appearing in their third European final.
