There has been major buzz at the University of Lagos, as a new Vice Chancellor has been appointed.
Prof Oluwatoyin Ogundipe has emerged the twelfth VC of the university following a seating of the Governing Council.
Prof Ogundipe, who is of the university’s Department of Botany, Faculty of Science, is the incumbent Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academics and Research, at the University.
He was ranked first by the Council while the former Dean of the university’s Students’ Affairs Unit, Prof. Kayode Amund, and the former Vice-Chancellor of the Caleb University, Imota, Lagos State, Prof. Ayodeji Olukoju, came second and third respectively.
The newly appointed vice-chancellor is expected to take over from the outgoing Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Rahamon Bello, whose tenure of office ends on November 10, while the new VC is to resume office as the university’s 12th substantive vice-chancellor on November 11.
Ogundipe, who was appointed as professor in 2002, was also the Director of Academic Planning and a member of many scientific organisations. He is a life member of International Society of Plant Morphologist, Fellow of Cohort 9 of the Leadership for Environment and Development, and the Linnaean Society, London, among many others.
