28-year-old Stage actress Agharese Emokpae popularly known as A’rese is the winner of the first season of The Voice Nigeria.
A’rese comes from a creative family as she has been doing music theatre ever since she graduated from Washington and Lee University in 2010. She has starred in various musicals and theatre productions in both Nigeria and The United States.
It was a nail-biting finale as A’rese and Chike made the Top 2. They performed “Hallelujah” by Jeff Buckly and “Mama” by Kiss Daniel respectively.
Fan favorites Brenda and Cornel made the Top 4 but couldn’t make it past that stage. The entire final episode was thrilling with all the Top 8 contestants bringing their A-game.
The team performances were a major highlight with Waje, 2Baba, Patoranking and Timi Dakolo performing alongside their top 2 team members.
While A’rese might have been declared the victor there’s a lot of debate on whether she deserved it or not. She’s the official winner but is she actually the people’s winner? More on that later. For now, let’s just say that what we’ve seen the past few months was a great season of music! And we’re really, really looking forward to Season 2.
