Pelle expelled from Italy’s squad after Ventura snub

Graziano Pelle has been kicked out of Italy’s squad and will not feature against Macedonia, after refusing to shake hands with Italy coach Giampiero Ventura, when he was substituted during the match against Spain.

The 31-year old was named in the starting lineup and played the first half and then a few minutes of the second half before he was replaced by Ciro Immobile. Italy was one goal down at the time.
As Pelle left the pitch, Ventura extended his hand to shake and encourage the former Southampton player but he was ignored.
Both the Italian Football Federation  FIGC and Ventura agreed that this is an unacceptable behavior and have thus dished out his punishment.  The Chinese based star will not feature in Italy’s next qualify against Macedonia.
“Giampiero Ventura, in agreement with the FIGC, has decided to exclude Graziano Pelle from the squad for the match against FYR Macedonia on Sunday, October 9 in Skopje for disrespectful behaviour at the time of his substitution during yesterday’s match with Spain,” read the statement.
“Being part of the national team entails the sharing of values and attitudes befitting the national team, starting with respect towards the staff, team-mates and fans. The player will return today to his parent club.”
Pelle had earlier apologized via his Instagram page but it seems it did not affect FIGC’s decision. See his statement below.
“Unfortunately, I have once again made a mistake,” he wrote on Instagram. “It was unacceptable behaviour, against the coach in the first place and also to my team-mates, who have always shown to have team spirit in a fantastic Italy group that we all belong to.
“Like any great mistake, you always suffer the consequences and it is only right that I take full responsibility. I must ask from the heart for forgiveness from everyone. Graziano.”
James ruled out of Colombia’s qualifiers
Real Madrid star, James Rodriguez, will have to miss Colombia’s World Cup qualifier against Uruguay, as a result of a calf injury.
The same injury kept him sidelined in the match against Paraguay on Thursday, though his side sealed all three points, even in his absence.
Colombia football federation made the announcement about his injury and also revealed that James will be returning to Spain immediately to seek treatment.
Colombia will have to make do without James, as they battle against Uruguay on Tuesday.
Chiellini drops out of Italy’s squad
Juventus has confirmed that Giorgio Chiellini will miss Sunday’s World Cup qualifier against Macedonia.
The 32-year old Juventus defender, who missed out on the match against Spain as result of a suspension, suffered a calf injury and has had to pull out of Italy’s squad all together.
This is a heavy blow Juve, who already have Mehdi Benatia and Daniele Rugani injured as well, with two major fixtures against Lyon and AC Milan coming up.
