Art X Lagos held its 2018 Press Launch at the Wheatbaker Hotel in Ikoyi, last week, where the highly anticipated return of ART X Lagos with exciting new features was announced.
The conference was joined by exhibiting artists such as Gerald Chukwuma (Gallery 1957), Duke Asidere (Retro Africa), Nike Davies-Okundaye (Nike Art Gallery) and Dotun Popoola (Signature Beyond Art Gallery) who spoke about their work and their excitement for this year’s fair.
They will be joined at ART X Lagos by 60 other artists exhibiting with 18 galleries from across the African continent and Diaspora.
The ART X Prize with Access winner, Bolatito Aderemi-Ibitola, introduced her upcoming solo exhibition at the fair, in conversation with Amaechi Okobi, the group head, Communications and External Affairs, Access Bank.
Meanwhile, Papa Omotayo and Malaika Toyo of A Whitespace Creative Agency discussed this year’s Interactive Projects, which will feature experiential mediums, creatively expressing the essence of Lagos.
ART X Live! Curator, Lanre Masha, and Creative Director, Odunsi the Engine, gave a taster of the hotly anticipated ART X Live! show, alongside one of this year’s performers, Teni the Entertainer. They revealed that ART X Live! 2018 is set to play on nostalgia, fusing contemporary music with the sounds of African icons from the 80s, 90s, and early 2000s, so prepare for an exciting showcase.
Of the many additions and developments to ART X Lagos 2018, was the revelation of Yinka Shonibare MBE as the fair’s keynote artist. This year, ART X Lagos will be presenting a special exhibition exploring Yinka Shonibare’s career highlights, and he will also give the keynote talk within the ART X Talks program.
With just over five weeks now to go until ART X Lagos 2018, the show is set for its most ambitious and stimulating fair yet.
