We believe that Theon Greyjoy (A.K.A Alfie Allen) has the best character development in Game Of Thrones. Over the years, we went from not caring about Theon, to hating Theon, to feeling bad for Theon then loving Theon.

After being taken as a hostage as a result of Greyjoy’s Rebellion, young Theon became a ward to Ned Stark, who raised him as his own. He was a close friend to Robb, whom he witnessed become King in the North after Ned’s execution by King Joffrey. “My sword is yours, in victory and defeat, from this day until my last day,” he told Robb at the ceremony.

Rob and theon

Yet, shortly afterward, he betrayed Robb and worked with his father, Balon, to invade the North and seize Winterfell from Bran and Rickon Stark. He burned two young farm boys alive and claimed they were the Stark brothers, who had actually escaped Theon’s clutches. Not long after, House Bolton took control of Winterfell, leaving Theon to be tortured by Ramsay Bolton.

Theon spent three seasons being tortured by Ramsay Bolton. Not only was Theon’s spirit broken, but his identity was completely stripped away from him. Ramsay cut off Theon’s penis, as well as some of his fingers. Theon’s arrogance was quite literally beaten out of him.  He became a shell of a man. Nothing of Theon Greyjoy remained, he had become “Reek” a slave of Ramsay Bolton. Yet Theon continued  to survive. He hit rock bottom, and kept going. Eventually, with the help of Sansa, Theon was able to find himself again, and thrive.

Theon being tortured

Theon managed to turn his whole life around and make up for his betrayal by helping Sansa escape, after .Once Sansa found safety with Brienne of Tarth, Theon returned home to his sister Yara and discovered his uncle Euron Greyjoy had killed their father to secure the Salt Throne of the Iron Islands. Consequentially, Theon and Yara formed an alliance with Daenerys Targaryen, but were defeated by their uncle before they could play a part in a siege of King’s Landing. Yara was taken hostage by Euron while Theon escaped. Although Theon later returned to rescue his sister. While his sister goes back to the Iron Island, Theon goes to Winterfell to join the fight against the dead. This is where Theon died an honorable death by protecting Bran Stark from the Night King

Theon was a lost boy who cared about those he loved and just wanted acceptance. Unfortunately, it took reaching rock bottom for that true, softer Theon to surface. No character on Game of Thrones has grown more than Theon Greyjoy.

What is dead may never die.
