For the longest time, Nigerians have considered therapy to be some kind of taboo. *Gasp* How dare you tell a stranger your business?! But as the times change, Nigerians have become more open to therapy. However, there are still a lot of Nigerians who think therapy isn’t worth paying for, and they think the same for having a life coach. On the contrary, therapy is very much worth the money, and getting a life coach could be life changing. Often times, these two small changes are the difference between the old you and the new you, that is buried just below the surface.
After the year we have had, we honestly think that everybody could do with some therapy and coaching, seeing as we’ve all been through a lot.
If you’re still not so sure about therapy or life coaching, here are reasons why you should consider them:
Therapy can help you handle and understand complex emotions
Therapy is well-known for its problem-solving techniques and reputation as a tool for overcoming anxiety and depression. Therapy is a way of establishing better emotional wellness in your life. You don’t have to go through a huge life event or survive a traumatic event to need therapy. Talking with a therapist allows you to get a sense of how you truly feel, helps you get feedback on whatever you’re feeling and offers insight on how those emotions are affecting your daily life. A therapist can help you understand the root causes of certain thoughts and feelings and explain things to you objectively in the language that you understand.
Life Coaches Can Help You Stick To Your Goals
Life coaches are the best! You should really consider getting one in 2021. Whether you want to make a significant career change or you want to achieve personal goals and milestones, talking to a professional life coach can help you climb over the mental blocks you encounter with any challenge. Having someone to answer to will hold you accountable for your progress. Having a life coach means that you don’t have to do it alone; it means you have someone who supports you and can guide you towards making decisions that will ultimately benefit you.
Talking To A Professional Can Help You Find Purpose
One thing that many people of different ages struggle with, is not fully knowing what they want to do with their lives. Oftentimes, this leads to feeling stuck in a cycle or like one is never fully making progress. we noticed this year is that a lot of young people still hadn’t figured out what they wanted to do with themselves. Speaking to a professional, whether it’s a therapist or a life coach can lead you towards finding your purpose. As you spend time with either of these people, you will be forced to delve deep within and explore old desires, dreams and passions that have been extinguished. These private yet open conversations allow you to set and work towards attainable goals, which can re-establish confidence, peace of mind and, ultimately, lead to a more meaningful life. They can even help you rebuild or form healthy relationships.
Specifically, sessions with a life coach can help you work on all kinds of goals and dreams— creating a specific plan, navigating potential internal and external obstacles, and bolstering your confidence and resilience.
Therapy helps with self- exploration
So many people have never had an opportunity to really talk about themselves in a safe, non judgmental space where their life’s story is front and centre. Therapy helps you do that. Ultimately, many of us don’t ever take the time to actually look into who we are and how we became that way. We don’t take the time to envision the person we’d like to become and try to become that person.
Seeing a therapist or getting a life coach will help you on your journey of self-exploration and bring your inner desires to the surface. Therapy brings the benefit of a broader awareness of life and encourages fluidity by telling you not to get wrapped up in a single way of living. In addition, therapy helps you confront profound fears and move past them.
It’s 2021, consider getting a therapist or a life coach. Your life will change for the better.
