Will Smith is overseeing the development of a new Fresh Prince of Bel-Air spinoff series. Smith and his newly launched holding company Westbrook Inc. are working on a Fresh Prince spinoff series. Westbrook was established in July by Smith and his wife Jada Pinkett Smith.
The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air originally aired on NBC from 1990 to 1996. The beloved show was co-created by Quincy Jones and saw Smith portray a fictionalized version of himself across from the late James Avery, Janet Louise Hubert, Alfonso Ribeiro, and others.
Smith still earns significant royalties from the original NBC show, which is now licensed to air in 193 territories.
Throughout the show’s six-year run, Smith played a fictionalized version of himself, a street-savvy teen from West Philadelphia (“born and raised”) who gets in a fight and is shipped to Bel Air to live with his wealthy uncle and aunt in their mansion with their three spoiled children.
It’s unclear where the spinoff will pick up.
