Wizkid has announced that he has plans to launch a music streaming app. Wizkid made this announcement in response to a question on his future business plans in an interview with Robert Bruce on UK radio station, Capital Xtra.
The singer stated that he was working in partnership with Nigerian bank United Bank Africa (UBA) on the new streaming app.
“My team and I, we’ve been working so hard. I have this new streaming app that I’m about to launch right now. In collaboration with United Bank for Africa. Those are my new partners.
“We intend to create a streaming platform for people to be able to market their music, put out their music and actually get revenue right into their pockets.”
In July, UBA unveiled Wizkid as it’s newest brand ambassador.
In the Capital Xtra interview, Wizkid also revealed plans of organizing a talent hunt in Africa.
“We are working on a whole lot of stuff. We have a talent hunt we are trying to do back home. We’re going to go around and pick some of the best talents from every African country. Collaborate and help them build and see, whatever we can do for the culture”
Wizkid holds the record of being the most streamed African artist with 4 billion streams, which cuts across streaming platforms like Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, Tidal, Deezer and SoundCloud.
He achieved international recognition in 2016 following his collaboration with Drake on the global hit, One Dance, which reached number one in 15 countries, including the United States, United Kingdom, Canada and Australia.
