‘X-Men: Dark Phoenix’ has turned out to be a box-office disaster. The latest installment in the X-Men franchise is set to lose between $100-120 million. With a 23% “fresh” from Rotten Tomatoes, Dark Phoenix earned the lowest-such score ever for an X-Men movie. This comes after Dark Phoenix generated just $33 million in ticket sales over its opening weekend, making it the worst-performing film in the franchise’s history. Scorched by poor reviews, “Dark Phoenix” finished in second over the weekend, according to studio estimates Sunday. Audiences who showed up to see “Dark Phoenix” seemed to agree with critics, giving it a poor B- CinemaScore.
Directed by longtime X-Men scribe Simon Kinberg, Dark Phoenix focuses on Jean Grey who is played by Sophie Turner fresh off of her Game of Thrones run as Sansa Stark. It also brings back James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender and Jennifer Lawrence. It’s the conclusion to the modern X-Men movies that started in 2000.
