So, Insecure. If you know HBO, then you already know that they don’t play. Whether the show is about a celebrity playboy and his squad (Entourage), violent prisoners (OZ) or sword slinging bastards (Game Of Thrones…obviously) HBO shows always come with a punch, and the new show Insecure is already throwing some wild jabs.
Insecure is a black comedy series by Issa Rae, a YouTube sensation known for the hilarious (and unapologetically crazy) The Mis-Adventures Of Awkward Black Girl. Now Issa Rae is projecting some of the awkward madness that is her part fiction/part fact life in this new HBO show.
Another sweet element of Insecure is the Nigerian comedian/actress/writer Yvonne Orji who plays Molly on the series. Yvonne is another chic with an inspiring Hollywood story that saw her feeling talentless and unsure while in a pageant, and the next thing her life took a turn and she found her calling…….. slaying. And for the record, she is always repping Naija, especially in her stand ups.
She’s best friends with Issa Rae’s character on the show and her sidekick through life.
Check out the trailer below and a totally mad episode of Issa Rae’s Awkward Black Girl. You’ll testify that the girl is not well.
