Racism is not something that any parent will want their children to have to worry about. Yet another black man has been shot in America and as always nothing is being done about it. There is no need going out in the morning if you are not sure you will come back home to your family. The last thing any parent wants is their children to be scared of the fact that they may never come home. As a child, you have to worry about child stuff, but racism is definitely not part of this.
What has inspired this is a viral video by ABC World News of a young black girl presenting a tearful plea after the Keith Lamont Scott shooting. This video broke my heart. You cannot really empathize with these people unless you are in an environment this happens. In the little girls words:
‘I come here today to talk about how I feel. I feel like we are treated differently than other people and I don’t like the way I feel. Just because of our colour doesn’t mean anything. We are black people and we shouldn’t feel like this. We shouldn’t have to protest because y’all are treating us wrong. We do this because we need to and we have rights. I have been born and raised in Charlotte and I have never felt this way until now and I can’t stand how we are being treated. It is a shame that our fathers and mothers are killed and we can’t even see them anymore. It is a shame that we have to go to the graveyard and bury them. we have tears and we shouldn’t have tears. We need our fathers and mothers to be by our side.’
Our hearts are with the families of the affected people. While this might not be a problem Nigeria is facing, it is a problem black people as a whole are facing and should be concerned about. Something definitely has to be done about the situation so that the future leaders of tomorrow can feel safe in their home.
