The internet has been in a state of euphoria (see what we did there haha) upon learning that a new movie starring Zendaya and John David Washington was filmed amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

While the rest of Hollywood was on lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Zendaya was hard at work on her new film and now fans finally got their first look at the film, “Malcom & Marie”

According to Deadline, “Filming for Malcolm & Marie took place between June 17-July 2 at the Caterpillar House, an environmentally conscious glass architectural marvel in Carmel, CA. Deadline also reports that Zendaya approached Euphoria creator Sam Levinson for a new film after production on “Euphoria” was paused due to COVID-19. He ended up writing the script in six days. Details about the film are still under wraps, but is said to have “some echoes of Netflix’s Marriage Story while resonating a number of social themes that the world is experiencing right now.”

Leading up to production, the cast and a small crew followed a doctor- and union-approved safety protocol involving multiple COVID-19 tests and a strict two-week quarantine period in Monterey. The cast and crew had to follow a strict set of guidelines including actors having to mic themselves and handle their own costumes while the set was limited to only 12 people.
